Outdoor Education

Dear Families and Friends,

Will you consider becoming a champion of outdoor education - to improve our programs and playing field?

Lower Athletic Field:   We need your help!

Two years ago, through generous gifts from people like you, we transformed our upper athletic field into a beautiful field for students to learn and play.  However, our lower athletic field does not match the caliber of the upper field.  Its grass and drainage are poor.  In fact, there is more dirt than grass in some areas, and it is hard to teach students important skills they need to play their sport.

You can help transform our lower athletic field so student athletes can achieve their fullest potential in baseball, field hockey, and lacrosse, field day and the all school picnic.  Your gift will make a difference for years to come when you help us irrigate and reseed the lower field to match the caliber of the upper field.

According to Athletic Director James Hester, "Middle school is a time when students venture out to try new sports and develop their skill set on the athletic field.  Having the right coaches and the right equipment are of great importance, but it is also essential to have a playing area that is suitable to their practice and game play needs.”

Outdoor Classroom:  You can make difference!

Designed to be a base for students to explore Silver Lake and the rest of God’s creation, the outdoor classroom lacks basic features like seating and work tables for students, water and electricity.  There is inadequate storage for equipment, so teachers must cart their materials for each lesson.

Our teachers believe the outdoor classroom has tremendous potential that could evolve into one of St. Anne’s most touted treasures; we need your help!

“Teachers are no strangers to on-the-spot thinking and using salvaged materials, but imagine how different teaching in the outdoor classroom would be if supplies and power were already there?” explains Meghan Ferster, Summer Camp and After School Program Director.

You and your gift can provide:

  • A water supply, sink and counter, and secure storage to hold muck boots, dipping nets, buckets, beakers and other tools for students exploration;
  • Electrical access – so students can use Chromebooks in the space and teachers can plug in microscopes, appliances, and other educational equipment; and,
  • Flexible furniture that suits our littlest learners on up to our middle school students.
