Cross Country - Coach Cristina Bromley & Coach Ryan Brown
The 2017 cross country season welcomed many returning runners in addition to eight new runners. Eleven students who had first run cross country in 6th grade continued to hone their racing skills, and many beat their personal records from the previous 2016 season. We especially appreciate the leadership of three eighth grade students: Caroline Bennett, Rachel Fonder, and Jaylen Douglas who participated all three years. This season we particularly worked on hill training, endurance, and dropping time in the second mile of the race. Amusing highlights from the season include entertaining student-led warm-ups, the much dreaded arm and ab exercises completed in unison post-practice, plank competitions involving students holding a plank for over a minute, and the annual Friendly's Fun Run. We ended the season with one win and five losses.
Field Hockey - Coach Pam Kern
This year's Field Hockey team had a solid core with 11 returning eighth graders and 5 strong sixth and seventh graders. The team worked hard at practice to improve their fitness levels, fundamental skills, and game strategies.
Highlights for the season included scoring a season high of 6 goals against Tome, outscoring our opponents 19 to 7 overall, recording 5 shutouts, and christening our newly refurbished field. Most importantly, the team learned how to work together to have a very successful season.
The team finished with a record of 5 wins, 1 loss, and 3 ties.
Boys' Soccer - Head Coach Cal Hurtt, Asst. Coach Tara Liguori, Asst. Coach Peter Thayer
The 2017 soccer season was definitely one to remember. With about half the team graduating from the 2016 squad it was sure to be a young team. This was illustrated by having just three 8th graders returning from last year's team, plus two more who jumped in and helped fill out the team. There was a number of experienced players throughout the roster and the large number of 7th and 6th graders who contributed as starters bodes well for next year's campaign. Ultimately the team had a 4-5-0 record along with a 1-0-1 record for the two "B" team games. Practices raised the level of play as the season went along and the team played their best games as the season came to a close.
