"The Tryouts," "The Funeral," and "The Note"

Middle School Drama Elective

On Friday, October 20th, a group of twelve students performed three short plays for their families and peers.  This was a culmination of the first session of the “Drama Elective.”  The twelve students were assigned roles in each play and had only four rehearsals to prepare for the performances.  This was a tight timeline, but the students rose to the challenge.  All three plays were comedies and definitely brought some smiles and laughter from a receptive audience.  Afterwards, the young actors enjoyed some well-deserved refreshments and watched a video of their skits to help them learn from the performances.

“The Tryouts” (Lauren, Jaide, Rebekah, and Margaret)

When three girls are planning to audition for a play that involves unrequited love, a misunderstanding about fiction and real-life sets the stage for an unsuspecting and confused young man.

“The Funeral” (Jamison, Sophie, and Emma)

Two friends try to help their other friend overcome her grief over the loss of her pet hamster.  As the friend laments a world without “Fluffy” and falls in a heap of sadness, her best friends find a way to divert her attention.

“The Note” (Katelyn, Naima, Grace, Cole, Cyrus, and Mrs. DeLong)

One young lady in English class is tortured by two boys that intercept a private note about a boy she likes.  The boys take pleasure in teasing and taunting, as she and her two best friends plead for the note’s return.
