Yilin Liu ‘16 came to St. Anne’s from Xiang Tan, China for his eighth grade year. Yilin lived with family members while attending St. Anne’s. He now attends Virginia Episcopal School (VES); Yilin tells us he wants to study psychology in college and that he enjoys weightlifting. He has the following reflections about his experience at St. Anne’s:
"The reason I was interested to come to the U.S. is that I wanted to explore more of the world and learn a different culture. I chose St. Anne’s because it is a good community for the students and it is my favorite school among those that are close to my cousin’s house.
Being a foreign student, I felt very welcome when I came to St. Anne’s. I was immersed into teachers and students’ hospitality, which helped me a lot for being part of the school community. Whenever I had any questions, I could just ask anyone in the school and they were happy to help me. The students at St.Anne’s take care of each other, which made me feel very welcome.
I definitely feel academically prepared for high school. I studied Biology in VES this year and I felt very comfortable with it because I already learned some of the information at St. Anne’s. It gave me more confidence to pursue higher academic achievement.
St. Anne’s is a great community with many amazing teachers and students. Being a member of the basketball team taught me a lot. No matter if we lose or win a game, we keep the same positive attitude and train better and better each time. At St. Anne’s I learned always to be positive to people. To family, friends, even strangers. It was one of the best experience I’ve ever had."
