2nd Grade Presents Check of $ $1,773.39 to Make-A-Wish

Each year the St. Anne's second grade sets out on a serious and lasting endeavor, a lofty goal-- to change the world! For sixteen years, every group has done so in their unique way.

The 2018 class continued the tradition with their highly successful bookstore, GROW INTO BOOKS! After weeks of study and preparation, they transformed the library into a children's bookstore.  They also transformed themselves into business owners and employees: running registers, advertising to the community, assisting customers, counting money, and more.

These children, along with the tremendous support of their families and the St. Anne's community, raised over $1,770 for the charity of their choice, The Make-A-Wish Foundation.  This week Michelle Wall from Make-a-Wish Delaware visited to tell our second graders about the foundation's work and how their donated bookstore proceeds will be used.  Our students and Ms. Walls both listened and asked many questions of the other.  Then we had an exciting moment when our check was presented!

Students shared some advice about this important second grade service-learning experience for next year's Second Grade:

"Have fun and be responsible. Remember that it's not about you.  It's about the people you are helping."
- Elise Malmberg

"Always collaborate"
-Amina Ellis-Daniels

"Be inspired.  Dream big.  Anything is possible if people believe in you. You are changing the world."
- Michael Simmonds
