When was the last time you spelled words out loud without the aid of spell check or even a pencil and a piece of paper?
We had a large number of students per grade level that gave up Tuesday recess to participate in the Scripps National School Spelling Bee, and many strong spellers! Several times, our finalists correctly spelled all of the words given for their grade and proceeded to spell words at the next level. The pressure rose as the disqualified spellers became spectators and fewer contestants spelled harder words. The children clapped and encouraged each other, whether the answers had been spelled correctly or not!
Our finalists per grade level were:
5th Grade: Cole Massey, Jamie Duckworth, and Shiloh Jackson
6th: Jaren Polk, Brianna Ditty, and Cyrus Meier
7th: Aina Puri and Niha Mukkamala
8th: Jiya Patel, Liam Hurtt, Abby White, and Alani Davila
We will have another round of competition at St. Anne's next week to identify our finalist. The winner will represent us at the state spelling bee at St. Mark's High School on Saturday, March 3rd.
Thank you all!
