At St. Anne’s the role of technology is rapidly evolving in age appropriate ways for our elementary and middle school students. Our challenge is to continually expand and refine both the tools and teaching methods that are meaningful for growing minds. The goal is to integrate technology in ways that enhance the learning experience while maintaining safe and ethical digital media standards.
We routinely convene faculty and Middle School student committees to examine new ways to incorporate technology in the classroom. Expanding our use of tablets, laptops, smartboards, video, online access, and more is an on-going goal. A student group serves as beta-testers for new products prior to introducing them to the Middle School. Ensuring we have adequate resources has also been a major focus of administrative and fundraising efforts in recent years.
Our curriculum is also adapting to the interest of our students - the latest generation of digital natives. In the spirit of ongoing collaborative professional growth, the faculty and technology team share cyber cafes, “apps of the week,” and teaching moments that demonstrate the power of technology. Shifting our middle school from using our technology lab to a more full scale use of laptops is the result of ongoing faculty and staff research and collaboration.
