Performing Arts
Saint Anne’s students from the youngest in Preschool all the way up to and through Eighth Grade have opportunities to participate in and find their voice through the newly formatted Performing Arts Curriculum. As an overview to the entire project, we start in the Primary School. In Preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten we enjoy rhythm play, tonal exercises using solfège in the 3 major keys of C, F, and G, as well as music and movement. We also dabble in a variety of character development, improvisational, and ensemble building exercises as part of the Drama Curriculum. When students enter Lower School, First through Fourth Grades, we begin work on music reading and writing, beginner level composition and an introduction to musical instruments while maintaining a robust choral component to their education. Here, we also continue our exploration of the theater arts through scene work, script reading and writing as well as an introduction to theater tech such as sound, lighting, stage direction, and set and prop fabrication. In Middle School, students in Fifth and Sixth grades continue on a path of theater arts exploration through theater history, study of repertoire, as well as individual and ensemble scene work and script reading and writing.
We are fortunate to have a thriving choral program with third, fourth grade and middle school choirs. These ensembles prepare for the annual Choral Nativity and Holiday Celebration Concert as well as the Spring Concert all while preparing music for our Chapel Services. The St. Anne’s Music Ministry is a powerful and rewarding way to lend your voice to the worship experience for all to enjoy.
Drama Club
The newly formed Drama Club, The St. Anne’s Heron Stagecrafters, welcomes students from Grades First through Eighth to participate in the Spring Musical in the form of acting or stagehand work. Our Stagehand Union handles the ropes of what it takes to mount a fully staged production while the actors audition in the Winter to be cast in that year's musical production. All students who come out for either acting or tech will be accepted into the program while being placed in a role that best suits their talents. The Stagecrafters and the Stagehand Union are wonderful opportunities for growth, mentorship, and exploration of bravery in a safe space for all involved.
Several of Saint Anne’s chorus members have represented the school at Delaware Junior All-State Chorus including Allaire Berl (2018), Emelie Cummins (2020), Elsbeth Daly (2020), Sean Ellis (2016), Brooke Hollander (2016), Zoey Honzel (2020), Ayanah Jones (2016), Katerina Kourpas (2016), and Julianna Shepherd (2019).
