An independent school in Middletown, DE for students in Preschool through Grade 8

Testing for Students

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we have mentioned in our reopening of the school document, all of our faculty and staff will be tested for Covid-19 prior to the start of school. While we have not mandated that all students be tested, we strongly recommend that you have your child tested. To that end and on behalf of New Castle County and the State of Delaware, we pleased to share a plan for testing all of the students prior to school opening.   This is one step to help ensure the safety of your students as they begin the new academic year.

The plan is that your students will each take their test at our Community Test sites, which we are expanding to accommodate the additional tests.  Here are the highlights:

  • There is no cost for the test.

  • Students who are not Delaware residents CAN be tested as well.

  • We suggest that you test your students by 4-6 cohorts and have each cohort report to a site on a different day.

  • Your students should pre-register.  There are a set number of test kits available at each site per day.  If the site fills on a specific day, the students can simply move to another location/day.

  • Students who can’t test on their assigned day can go on any other day.

  • For families who have children in multiple grades or multiple schools they can all go together, there’s no need to separate.

  • Please include the following link in your communication with your students/families to locate the test site and pre-register.

  • This test link will be updated for more sites daily, and the State of Delaware is finalizing an option for the new site at P.S. DuPont on Tuesday. Our closest site would be at Middletown High School on Monday, August 24th from 9 am to 2 pm.

  • The test results usually are received within two days.  However, to ensure the student has the results back in time we suggest every student aim to be tested by Tuesday if possible.

  • Positive test results cannot be sent to your school at this time, however, your school could adopt a policy that all tested students must bring the results on their first day to attend class.  Test results will be emailed and texted to everyone tested, both positive and negative. We ask that you please share the results of your test with our school nurse at nurse@stannesde.org.

  • If these times and locations don't work for your family you can go to your nearest Walgreens for a test.

Please call or email me if you have any questions as we start this process.  Thank you very much for your time and your commitment to keeping our community safe.

Regards,

 Barry
