What Does Religious Inclusion Look Like at St. Anne's?

At St. Anne’s Episcopal School, religious inclusion is woven into the fabric of our community. We strive to create a welcoming and respectful environment for students of all faiths and backgrounds. Our approach is multifaceted, focusing not only on Christian education but also on the exploration of diverse religious traditions, and the promotion of ethical and moral development.

Through our curriculum, students engage with a broad spectrum of religious teachings and their influence on history, culture, and the arts. This exposure fosters a deep appreciation for different belief systems and encourages students to develop a well-rounded, open-minded perspective on the world. By exploring the values, practices, and stories of various faiths, we help students understand the role religion plays in shaping societies and cultures, while fostering respect and empathy for others.

How is the Chapel Program Structured?

The chapel program at St. Anne’s Episcopal School is central to our shared spiritual life, offering students, faculty, and staff regular opportunities for prayer, reflection, and growth. We hold one to two chapel services per cycle for all students, from Preschool through eighth grade. These services are designed to be inclusive, offering a space for individuals of all faiths to come together in a spirit of community.

Each chapel service typically includes a welcome from the Head of School, opening and closing collects, music, a chapel talk by our Chaplain or a guest speaker, and scripture readings. The services are structured to foster spiritual reflection, ethical thinking, and a sense of belonging within the school community.

In addition to weekly chapel services, we celebrate a variety of special services throughout the year, marking significant religious holidays such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter, as well as holidays from other traditions like Passover, Diwali, and Ramadan. These special services highlight the diversity of religious experiences within our community and offer students a chance to deepen their understanding of the world’s religious and spiritual practices.

Our chapel services are designed to be spiritually enriching and pluralistically inclusive. While they draw primarily from the Christian tradition, they also include prayers, hymns, and readings from other sacred texts as appropriate, reflecting the diverse spiritual perspectives within our student body.

Overall, the chapel program at St. Anne’s offers students a meaningful opportunity to connect with their faith, engage with the beliefs of others, and grow as individuals within a supportive, inclusive community.
