Dear Parent(s),
St. Anne's Episcopal School (St. Anne's) has always had a policy to protect your family's personal information. In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), we wish to inform you of your rights under this Act.
FERPA is a federal law applicable to St. Anne's pursuant to Section 4111 of Title 14 of the Delaware Code and its regulations. These regulations require St. Anne's, with certain exceptions, to obtain your written consent prior to the disclosure of personally identifiable information from your child's education records. It is important to note that St. Anne's may disclose appropriately designated information about your child, herein referred to as "directory information" without your written consent unless you have advised us to the contrary in accordance with the school's procedures.
The primary purpose of directory information is to allow St. Anne's to include information from your child's education records in certain school publications. Examples of these types of school publications include:
- Family Directory (Shared with currently enrolled St. Anne's families. Includes student name, grade, teacher, household address, parent names, parent contact information.)
- Yearbook (Shared with currently enrolled St. Anne's students. Student name, photo, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, and homeroom are included. This information will be seen by the vendor who publishes the yearbook)
- Concert, drama production or graduation ceremony programs (Shared with audience at the program.)
- Social Media: Photos of children may be used on social media - electronic newsletters, school website, Facebook, etc. The child's first name and grade level may be stated on social media. St. Anne's will obtain parental permission before using child first and last name with a photograph of their child on social media.
- Press Releases: Photos of children may be used in press releases to local media. A photo caption or a quote may identify the child's first name, last name, and grade in press releases. St. Anne's will obtain parental permission before sharing additional identifying directory information (name of home town) with local media.
If you do not want St. Anne's to disclose any or all of the types of information designated above as directory information from your child's education records without your prior written consent, you must notify us by September 18th, 2020 in writing, or by completing the attached online Opt Out Form.
Please let us know if you have any questions regarding this matter.
Sincerely,
