8th Grade Algebra 1 Curriculum & Green Polo Shirt Reminder Dear Parents and Guardians,
Previously, St. Anne's offered two different Algebra I courses, both of which offered the same scope of learning topics and skills but with different sequencing. This year, the 8th-grade Algebra 1 curriculum will be integrated; we will use both a topic-centered approach and a problem-centered approach. This integrated approach not only allows students the opportunity to stretch and grow in multiple ways but also allows the teacher to meet students needs in a variety of ways. Thus, all 8th-grade students will complete this integrated Algebra I course as part of their graduation requirements.
Over the summer, the Exeter 1 (Problem Solving) math text was revised to identify the essential problems that work best for our 8th-Grade students and aligned with the topics from the Holt McDougal Algebra 1 textbook. Each lesson includes a wide variety of exercises, ranging from basic exercises that help students develop and practice skills, to challenging exercises that involve logical reasoning and problem solving. This integrated approach will give students a strong foundation in Algebra while also preparing them for future study of geometry, probability, and data analysis.
In preparation for the school year and as a reminder, Pre-Algebra summer work was assigned to help broaden and strengthen each student's math skills and ultimately prepare them to excel in Algebra 1. If you or your child has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
As a gentle reminder, don't forget to purchase your 8th grader's green polo shirt to be worn on the first day of school (9/2) and other special school days. Click this link for more details.
Stay safe and enjoy the rest of the summer.
