An independent school in Middletown, DE for students in Preschool through Grade 8

Middle School

Welcome to St. Anne’s Middle School!

We know that middle school is a critical transition time between lower school and high school, and we pride ourselves on creating opportunities for students to become self-aware, to learn self-regulation, and ultimately to be self-motivated, understanding that there is inherent potential in every person and anything is possible with a positive mindset as well as effective and sustained effort.

At St. Anne’s, students will learn important academic and non-academic skills and behaviors, experience both challenges as well as successes, learn to persevere and be resilient in the face of setbacks, and hone and sharpen both problem-solving skills as well as question-asking skills. In the classroom, in the hallways, on the playing field, and on field trips, students engage in each and every aspect of our middle school life, knowing that it is their time to take charge of their learning, become more independent, take on more responsibility, and prepare themselves for the rigor and requirements of their high school of choice.

Our professional middle school faculty know just how to spark the interests of their students and to facility deep, enduring learning. We love middle schoolers and work hard to ensure every student feels empowered and equipped to navigate today’s life challenges - everything from completing a social studies project to organizing a service project and resolving conflict with a friend to preparing for a student-led conference. We believe in the unlimited potential of all our students and help them to develop and grow as intellectuals, artists, athletes, musicians, and leaders as well as social and spiritual beings. Ultimately, we graduate strong students who will take the leadership skills and competencies learned and practiced over the course of their middle school years and transfer them to their high school, always contributing to their community in significant and meaningful ways.

Middle school students anchor their learning with five core subjects: math, science, social studies, language arts, and Spanish. The study of Spanish is an integral part of the core curriculum; it allows students to acquire another language which is a skill that is becoming more important in our 21st century globally connected lives. In addition to the core subjects, our students study performing arts, fine arts, physical education, computer science, and music. And all our sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students join at least one athletic team each year in order to gain skills in a particular sport as well as to learn what it is like to be part of a larger cooperative team.
