Wasp Update from Mr. Thayer

As we noted a few weeks ago, it has been an unusual month at St. Anne’s for yellow jackets and other wasps.  For the first several weeks of school they have been more numerous and aggressive than usual and we have removed and/or treated all of the known nests around the building.  We have also set about 20 bait traps near the areas where the wasps have been most active. With the recent cooler temperatures and the hundreds of wasps caught in our traps, we are feeling better about the wasp situation. That said, we know we will need to continue to be cautious until we have had some extended fall and early winter weather.

September 25th SAPA Meeting Recap

We had a wonderful St. Anne’s Parents’ Association (SAPA) meeting on Tuesday evening.

SAPA President Tammi Stephens provided an overview of SAPA at the meeting using a powerpoint and several supporting documents.  Scrip coordinator Heather Longard explained the Scrip fundraising program, and Renee Chaudoin described how parents can support the Parent Ambassador Program.

Meeting Agenda

Ways to Fundraise for SAPA

Get Involved
All St. Anne’s parents are members of SAPA, and we invite all parents to get involved and support SAPA’s work by joining one of SAPA ‘s committees:  Fundraising, Parent Education, and Faculty Appreciation.  SAPA is also an active partner in school committees including the Service Committee (chaired by Chaplain Hanna), Friends of the Library (chaired by Amy Shepherd), and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee (Chaired by Amy Shepherd and Beth Bell), and Outdoor Education (chaired by Kerry Wilson).

Future Meetings
SAPA has scheduled evening meetings throughout the school year on different days of the week to accommodate parent schedules. SAPA’s monthly meetings will alternate meeting in the morning and in the evenings.

Our next evening SAPA meeting will be on Wednesday, 11/7/18 at 6:15 p.m.

Questions about SAPA?  Please send an email to Tammi Stephens.

Updated: Blessing of the Animals 10/11/18

Due to the expected rain on Thursday morning, we will have the Blessings of the Animals in the gym.  If you are bringing your pet please enter the gym from the rear entrance.

********

A favorite chapel tradition at St. Anne's is when we give thanks to God for this wonderful creation, especially our pets and animals. In honor of St. Francis, patron saint of animals, we gather on the front lawn to bless our pets, pictures of our pets, and our stuffed animals. This year we will do that on October 11th at 8:15 am. Clergy from Delaware and Maryland will be with us for this festive occasion. Please plan to join us!

Animal Blessing photo, prior years

Weather permitting, this event is held outdoors on the school circle.  If you can be here, the students will all sit together and then join parents and pets for the actual blessing. Parents, grandparents, alumni, and their pets will have a designated place to stand near the Middle School doors. After your pet is blessed, you can remain until the end of chapel or if your pet is antsy, you may continue to the parking lot.

If you cannot bring your pet, please send a photograph or a stuffed animal that your child can have blessed.  Alumni families, please bring your pets forward once those belonging to current students have been blessed.

We are looking forward to having all of our furry friends for chapel!
