General Job Description: St. Anne’s Episcopal School in Middletown, Delaware seeks a spirited and talented individual who enjoys working with middle school students and has 3-5 years of teaching experience. Our teachers focus on the intellectual, social, physical, artistic, and spiritual growth of each child to create a learning environment where each student is known, loved, challenged, and inspired. Beginning August 2019, this person’s teaching responsibilities will include 5th and 6th grade social studies classes as well as some world religion. In addition to providing social studies instruction, middle school teachers serve as advisors to grade-level advisory groups of 6-8 students. The ability to teach drama, computer science, robotics, or coach a sport is a plus.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a balanced social studies program involving factual background material, original documents, material on current events, group discussion and other appropriate activities designed to encourage students to develop skills, gain knowledge, deepen understandings, and strengthen cultural competencies

  2. Differentiate instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities, attitudes and cultural background

  3. Understand the fundamental developmental stages in the social, emotional, and academic lives of middle school students

  4. Use technology to enhance learning and communicate effectively

  5. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior that is aligned with our core values: respect, responsibility, and compassion

  6. Communicate with parents on student progress

  7. Attend specific school events/activities outside of the school day and supervise as needed

  8. Participate in curriculum development and serve on faculty committees

  9. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty, and staff

  10. Attend weekly Episcopal chapel service and other assemblies

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred

Requirements: Regularly sit, turn, bend, reach, stand, walk, talk, hear, and interact with campus visitors as well as others who telephone. Must have the ability to understand and present materials and communicate with constituents and co-workers in a harmonious manner. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
