The music program shares the limelight with the visual arts at St. Anne’s. All lower school students have weekly music education classes. In middle school, students continue music education classes, plus instrumental instruction.
Our music instructors emphasize the “why” as well as the “how.” Our study of music draws from brain-based research so that students can understand how music education applies to real life. For example, first graders will learn the names and the sounds of all of the instruments they will hear prior to their field trip to hear an orchestra, and fourth grade will be well versed before actually playing the recorder. In Middle School, students study music theory as they learn to read music and play instruments.
All of our students experience the beautiful results of collaboration when they perform at our Christmas and Spring Concerts. For those who are inspired to continue with music, the St. Anne’s music program prepares them for high school band, orchestra, and chorus.
Music is a universal language. It is also science, math, history, and physical education. Most of all, music is art. It is our goal for students to develop a lifelong appreciation of the arts, and to give all of our students the opportunity to discover and develop their musical talents.
